The need for a maintenance
Primrose park in aldergrove, West Edmonton
Primrose Park and playground is located at 8304 188 Street, Edmonton, Alberta within the Aldergrove neighborhood. The playground was originally built in 1990. In 2017 the City of Edmonton inspected the playground structure and rated the condition as poor. Based on safety and design standards continually evolving replacement parts can no longer be purchased to renew components of the park to extend its usable life. Many components have already been removed, leaving the playground not fully functional.
The Aldergrove community consists of 12,007 residents, according to the 2016 Municipal Census. 2,045 out of 4,300 households in the neighborhood have children at home. It is a gathering place for seniors, adults and children of all ages. Soccer and baseball games are a regular activity. Residents can be seen year round walking their dogs around and through the park area. Since the wood constructed park is well over its maximum life, there is a significant risk of splinter injury to the children.
Creating a maintenance free park will be optimal for the park users. The playground and park also require more challenging equipment and areas of play. The goal is to improve the playground and park space to represent the needs of the community based on the survey. The new space will provide the community with an engaging, safer outdoor environment.
